Josh Koons was born in New York City, and grew up 7 miles from Manhattan, where he was exposed to music through Broadway musicals such as West Side Story, Hair, Fiddler on the roof and many more. He studied acting in the summer and began guitar and Piano at 13. He started his first original rock band that same year. Josh was further educated in music theory and composition and Jazz at Hartt school of music in Connecticut.
Josh has taught Guitar, Piano, Bass, music theory and songwriting for over 20 years with an emphasis on popular songs and blues, encouraging students to choose and learn the music they love the best.If the student enjoys singing, he or she will learn to accompany themselves on their instrument, and are usually very surprised at how quickly they can learn some of their favorite songs.
Josh’s original music can be heard on his Website, Spotify, Youtube and other platforms, and he performs regularly with his excellent band at Austin music venues.
